Christian Faith is about living as best we can for God, living in His way that was shown to the world in His Son Jesus, the Christ. Sometimes we do this better than at other times! Christians believe that through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, the times we don't do well, get it wrong, sin, fail (or whatever word you want here!) we are forgiven. His death on the cross dealt with all our failures and so we
Bible Journaling
Getting Creative with Scripture St Paul in one of his letters in the New Testament writes to Timothy: ‘All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness’ 2 Timothy 3:16 We should be connecting with scripture every day. When we do it’s most likely going to be through reading it or hearing it. Daily readers and reflections are helpful, either on-screen, in a book or via a podcast. They help us to think about scripture from
Gardens
Written by Jill Nugent Have you got a garden? Do you enjoy gardening? Perhaps you are having a go at it now because, in the present situation, you actually have extra time on your hands? Being out in green spaces is good for our well-being but I actually like to think it’s good for God as well. Gardening can be on a large scale of course. There are many beautiful gardens that open to visitors and they can be inspirational as well
Importance of ‘home’ in the Bible
Written by Jill Nugent Home for most of us is a special place. There are many quotes that reflect its specialness. For example ‘There’s no place like home.’ ‘Home is where the heart is.’ ‘Home is a shelter from storms.’ ‘Home is where you feel safe.’ Home is mentioned often in the Bible. Jesus was invited into people’s homes – Zacchaeus, Simon Peter, Mary and Martha to mention a few. He ate meals, healed and taught people in homes. He was surprised by a paralysed man
Letter from Minister Mark Robinson
I am writing to you from Osu which is in Accra, Ghana. As many of you already know, I am completing the last two weeks of my sabbatical programme, which was foiled last year. My focus is "Keeping faith in the face of trauma" and I am thinking particularly about the effects of generations of trauma. I will also seek to tie that into recent “trauma”. This journey to Ghana has been vital to my research. Some little things that may
War Memorial Restored
For those who have not heard the story of the War Memorial Tablet, it was consecrated in 1921 at the Congregational Church in Hoddesdon and bears 12 names of members who gave their lives during the 1914-18 war. When the church was demolished in the mid 1960s it was salvaged and brought to be stored at 91 High Road, Broxbourne, which was being used by the congregation during the building of our new and very modern one. In October 1972,
June 2024 Letter from our Minister, the Reverend Mark Robinson
Dear Friends, Doesn't it feel like time is moving faster these days? Here we are, already in the season of Pentecost, a time that marks a significant moment in the life of the Church—the arrival of the Holy Spirit. This is a very special and important time, when God’s Spirit equips the apostles with the boldness and wisdom necessary to spread God's love far and wide. This event at Pentecost is not just a historical moment but a vivid reminder of
Induction of the Revd Mark Robinson – Sunday 3rd April 2022 4pm
The Induction Service took place in Hertford URC. It involved members of all three churches and included a sermon from Revd Dr Michael Jagessar which gave rise to considerable hilarity. The two readings (Isaiah 55:1-9 and John 21:1- 13) emphasised how we as Christians should celebrate what is offered to us and enjoy a party on the beach as the disciples did when their fishing catch became huge thanks to advice from 'the man on the shore'. Revd Mark Robinson replied to
