Worship at Broxbourne
After being welcomed by the welcomers, the first thing you will see on entering before 10.30 am on a Sunday is the projection screen which, apart from pictures, shows the words of the hymns and notes during the sermon.
At the entrance, in addition to receiving a bible with two book-marks, hymn books are offered ‘If You Can’t Read The Screen’. The offertory basket is at the entrance. We stand for the entry of the bible.
After the notices, Junior Church go out to the Oasis for their activities. They come back into the service to share what they have learned.
As we ‘share’ our minister our worship experience includes many visiting preachers as well as in-house input. This creates a rich tapestry of content and delivery. Something for everyone.
We have a variety of worship styles from Traditional to Family-orientated as well as special services, including contemplative services (e.g. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday), an annual Memorial and Thanksgiving Service, a Carols’ Café-style service; traditional lessons and carols by candlelight; and, for the first time in 2023, a Christingle Service led by the members of the Junior Church.
We are Bible-based, interpreting, and applying the Bible in today’s context, inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit.
We have an ‘Open Table’ policy for Communion, recognising memberships of other denominations; and offering Young Children a blessing. Anyone who already loves the Lord, or who knows Him a little and wants to know Him more, is welcome at His table.
There is Holy Communion monthly. In the URC, the Elders serve small pieces of bread on plates to the congregation in their seats. In our case, all wait until all are served and then eat together. Next, similarly with a mini glass of non-alcoholic wine.
After every Sunday morning Service, refreshments are served in the hall downstairs.
Other activities during the week include:
- COMET: Come On Mondays, Enjoy Togetherness. 2-4pm during term time.
- After Eights: monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of the month 2-4pm,
- Regent Regale: Retired Gents afternoon tea.
- Short-mat bowls on Thursdays at 7.30pm
Harmony theme for 2024-25
We are currently exploring various teachings on the theme of Harmony. The spiritual meaning of Harmony is to live in peace and accord with others, especially within the community of believers.
Bible verse: ‘Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Never be wise in your own sight.’ Romans 12:16
Prayer: Lord, lead us to live in harmony with our neighbours. Teach us to love without conditions, listen with respect, and nurture peace in every interaction. Give us the humility and patience to uphold unity, even when we face disagreements. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
